The Starfield New Game Plus feature has unique quirks. Discover whether you should skip the main quest in Starfield during your NG+ run. Contains spoilers.
Should you skip the main quest in Starfield
If you want to skip the main quest in Starfield, make sure you’re in your NG+ playthrough. Check out our NG+ guide for details on how to reach that part and what carries over.
Repeat or skip the main quest
Head to the Lodge to find everyone surprised. You’re given a choice when you talk to Sarah:
- Repeat main quest: Join Constellation and unravel the mystery.
- Skip main quest: Reveal that you’re Starborn and know about the artifacts.
Decide if you want to go through the same stuff again.
Pros and cons exist for both options. Repeating the main quest means redoing every mission. Skipping the main quest drastically alters the campaign, revealing details and affecting companion romance.
A different storyline progression may affect certain side quests, like missing out on the Overdesigned mission and the free Class-C Kepler R ship.
Artifact and power acquisition
If you skip the main quest, Vladimir gives you all artifact locations. You’ll see them in your quest log as part of the mission “Among the Stars.”
Unlockable powers you’ve acquired in your initial campaign carry over. Vladimir may inform you of temple locations and you might obtain upgraded versions.
How to recruit companions if you skip the main quest
Recruiting companions differs if you skip the main quest:
- Sarah, Vasco, Barrett: No problems, they’re in The Lodge.
- Lin and Heller: Found in Vectera, but they may have bugs preventing recruitment.
- Sam and Andreja: Not available at the start, but they show up in The Lodge after acquiring all artifacts.
Barrett is the only one with dialogue.
Starborn interactions
Key interactions with Starborn in NG+:
- No attack in The Lodge since you can grab artifacts without it.
- Meet Starborn rivals in orbit over Oborum III instead of docking with the Emissary’s ship.
- Choose to side with the Hunter or Emissary in Oborum III, replacing the interaction in Unearthed/NASA Landmark.
- The Revelation final mission remains mostly the same.
- Artifact locations remain the same, but you receive a different Starborn Suit with better stats and different mods.
Decide whether to repeat the campaign or try something different. As a Starborn, you may encounter the Starborn Trader as you explore the stars.
