PROMOTION GUIDE ]
A performance point
system to gauge a character's promotions throughout the game. Points are
awarded to each player on a weekly basis depending on the quality and
quantity of participation that they contribute to the game by the GM. The
points are tallied and presented to the players on a biweekly basis.
The first requirement for
promotion is the attainment of the minimum number of points for the rank
to be achieved.
As you rise in rank more
will be expected of your posts, such as: interaction with others, the
ability to help keep the plot on track and moving in a single direction,
staying in character and role playing your situation, etc.
The following is the
breakdown of the weekly point awards, and the requirements for receiving
them:
1/2 Point: 1 Filler
Post. A filler
post is one that is short, usually no more than a couple of paragraphs. It
often serves little more than to just meet the minimum weekly posting
requirements.
1 Point: 1 Full Post. A
full post is one that is in-depth, engaging, or thoughtful. It usually,
but not necessarily, pertains directly to the main plot(s), or to an
existing/emerging sub-plot.
0 Point: No
posts due to an absence from the sim in which either the GM or AGM were
notified and had given permission for.
-1 Point: Week
of no posts due to an absence NOT granted/agreed upon by either the GM or
AGM.
A new player would start
as an Ensign, with 0 points. After accumulating 15 they would be promoted
by the GM to Lieutenant Junior Grade. Since points are cumulative after 25
more points they would become a full Lieutenant. [15+25=40].

Promotion to (Rank) must be decided upon by the CinC and not the GM
Assuming
a player posts an average of 3 full posts per week, one can expect to be
promoted to Lt. JG after about 5 weeks; to full Lt. after about 15 weeks,
etc.
The
amount of time to receive a promotion will depend on the efforts of the
player. This system is meant to be a way to more directly reward a player
for their efforts and work. It can be discouraging for active players if
Player #1 writes full posts twice a week for a whole mission and Player
#2, who started at the same time, just writes a line or two every other
week, when the mission is completed we both get the same promotion as if
we had invested the same amount of time and effort into the game, which of
course wasn't true. I have found that with this system a player can choose
the interaction and ambitions of his character in a more direct manner,
with the rewards following accordingly.
Promotions
are about ability and dedication. The two go hand in hand the whole way
through. It takes a lot to stick it out and bring a character through the
ranks. There is nothing that makes a player prouder or a GM than to write
that post where you finally get to put on that second or third pip.
Posts
Requirements for Rank
The
rank of CAPTAIN
requires 15 posts per month.
The
rank of COMMANDER
requires 12 posts per month.
The
rank of LIEUTENANT
COMMANDER requires 9
posts per month.
The
rank of LIEUTENANT
requires 8 posts per month.
The
rank of LIEUTENANT
JUNIOR GRADE requires
7 posts per month.
The
rank of ENSIGN
requires 6 posts per month.
Failure
to meet the minimal requirements for rank will result in one point being
deducted at months end.
Removal
From the Game
Each
Commanding Officer (CO) is required to monitor their players posting to
adhere to these requirements. Deduction of points for failing to post at
these rates will be enforced.
If
a player needs to be gone for an extended period of time, they must first
notify their CO who may put them on a Leave of Absence where the posting
requirements are temporarily waived until that player returns. If a player
exceeds the time requested for a Leave of Absence, they will be dropped
from the game.
If
players do not post, the following steps are authorized by the CinC:
1)
CO e-mails player if
they have not posted at least once in a week and requests an explanation.
Player has 72 hours to respond to CO.
2)
If there is no
response from player, CO sends a final e-mail giving them an additional 48
hours to respond or they will be removed from the ship and placed in a
"probationary" status.
3)
If after the final
warning is given there is still no response, CO contacts the CinC to have player removed from the ship and that position is opened up
for other interested players.
